A Taste of History: Torani is Proud to Re-Release Original Flavors

As Torani embarks on its 100 years in business, we are proud to honor the rich history that has brought more flavor into the world since 1925. When we first started, Torani founders, Rinaldo and Ezilda Torre created hand-crafted syrups using recipes brought over from Lucca, Italy, to the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco. Our original five flavors were Grenadine, Lemon, Orgeat, Anisette and Tamarindo. In our centennial year, we are thrilled to announce the re-release of two of our original flavors, Tamarindo and Black Anisette!
In the 1930’s when prohibition ended, Torani’s original founder, Ezilda, led Torani through the Great Depression and WWII as one of the first female spirit rectifiers in the United States. As Torani expanded in popularity beyond liqueurs, the launch of our original Vanilla Syrup created waved in the world’s first flavored latte. Torani became well integrated in the specialty coffee scene, popping up in cafes, restaurants and bars around the world. And the public embraced us, with more and more fans using Torani creating their own custom, cafe-quality beverages at home. As we look back on the past century, we wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of our team members and partners who have helped us create flavor and opportunity for all.

So what do Tamarindo and Black Anisette taste like? Tamarindo, a flavor derived from the tamarind fruit is a sweet, tangy and fruit-forward addition to lemonades, teas, refreshers, mocktails and more. Black Anisette is perfect for the licorice lover - it’s rich, sweet and bold with a molasses-like depth and slightly peppery bite. This flavor shines in coffees, teas, mochas, sodas and more. We’ve added a few recipes below to get you started, but the possibilities are endless!
